I LIKE ME WHEN…
How would you complete the sentence?
I’ve been working on this for myself for a little while – mainly for my own benefit, but also as something of a tester.
In many ways, this builds upon my ongoing learning from the Positive Intelligence framework of Shirzad Chamine
(thank you, sir – there is much “Sage” going on here!)
My thoughts here are quite simple:
- I know myself at my worst;
- I know when I let myself (and others) down; and…
- I know I don’t like myself in those moments
However, I’ve yet to find the self-development framework that
(for me)
doesn’t just act as a big mirror to my worse self
(the Judge in PQ terms)
and lead me to more self-criticism…
Which, in turn, leads me to be more of my worse self, which…
You get the drift.
So, I wondered, what would mindful self-development look like if it were purely positive in nature? If it didn’t focus on what I lack?
You see, a LOT of the time, I also:
- Know myself at my best;
- Know when I show up for others; and…
- Know moments where I love myself
So, instead of asking, “how can I stop being…”
(my worse self)
what would happen if I were to ask, “how can I be
(my better self)
more often…”
And I ended up with this simple sentence, I LIKE ME WHEN…
Like all the best ideas, it’s been kicking around somewhere between sub-conscious and conscious thought for the past little while.
Here are some of the things that have popped up:
– I like me when I’m helping people act/think differently
– I like me when I’m exploring/discovering music with my guitar in hand
– I like me when I do live video streams
– I like me when I’m not hungover
– I like me when I’m in a fasted state
– I like me when I’m mixing songs
– I like me when I’m on the mats practicing karate
– I like me when I’m walking the dog
– I like me when I’m not worrying about money
– I like me when I’m working on new projects and solutions
– I like me when I make the connections that provide breakthrough insights
– I like me when I can provide someone else’s “Aha!” moment
– I like me when I’m in flow and moving forward
– I like me when I’m fully engaged in a conversation
What a wonderful list! And what a wonderful me! 🙂
Now, the next step is to planfully, mindfully make sure I get to be the me I like more often.
Stay tuned! 😀
